City Hall Exterior Lighting
2007 San Antonio, Texas
The goal for new exterior lighting for City Hall is the night time highlighting of the building to dramatize the distinctive arches, terra cotta relief and decorative castings, and the overall building form. The new lighting is a tier arrangement to equally illuminate each building face and floor without creating deep shadows in the relief area. Fixtures are mounted in a variety of locations, including floor recessed uplights at the entries that enhance the sculpted arches and provide additional indirect light at the doors. In recognition of the historic designation of the building, no fixtures are mounted directly to the facade. The existing historical post lights were restored closely to their original form.
New grounds lighting was designed for general illumination of the site with some emphasis lighting at monuments.
