Gallardo Elementary School
2006 Southside Independent School District
Gallardo Elementary School is located on an 18 acre site within the Mission del Lago subdivision at the Southside Independent School District's northern edge. Funded by the District's 2002 Bond Program, the new school is designed for pre-kinder through 5th grade with a capacity of 660 students, expandable to a maximum capacity of approximately 800 students.
The organization and design of the school is based upon the central location of the Library, which is considered to be the heart of the school. Immediately accessible from the main entrance adjacent to the main circulation corridor, the Library is visually connected to surrounding classrooms and corridors by a large expanse of glazed openings along its perimeter. Also within the core of the building are the special needs and special use classrooms, as well as the office areas. Main classrooms for pre-kinder through 5th grades encircle the building's exterior, providing natural light and exterior views for all classrooms.
