Southside ISD Master Plan
1996 Southside Independent School District
In January 1991, Southside Independent School District engaged Debra J. Dockery, Architect, P.C. to assist the District in developing a 10-year facilities master plan. At that time, the 2,900 student enrollment of the District had exceeded the capacity of the existing facilities and enrollment growth exceeding 60% was projected over the ten year plan. Existing facilities also needed renovations for accessibility, building code updates, asbestos abatement and maintenance repairs.
The adopted master plan identified 21 projects totaling an estimated $27,000,000 (cost estimate for 1991) in new construction and renovation needs. An update of the master plan in 1996 added a new elementary campus in lieu of additions at two campuses. The master plan received the full commitment of the School District. The last of the planned projects completes construction in the spring of 2005. Importantly, the enrollment projections, needed improvements and estimate of project costs inflated to the year of construction have been very reliable.
