The new La Coste Fire Station #11 augments the fire and emergency safety response for this small rural Texas community.  Building from the success of the Rio Medina Station for Medina County ESD No. 1, the ESD staff and Dockery Architecture refined the  plan and internal functions for a program moving from volunteer fire fighters to full paid staffing.  The 10,000 square foot facility has accommodations for 4 fire apparatus, an EMS bay, and first responder living quarters.  The site is a prominent intersection leading into the town.  Orientation of the building was important for visibility and community impact.  Exterior materials and forms were selected to complement historic and significant structures in the neighborhood.
